Clarity is intentional.
The filter defines the cup.
Official Chemex Bonded Filters FS-100 are engineered to remove fine sediment and excess oils while allowing the desirable flavor compounds to pass through.
The result is coffee that’s bright, balanced, and free of bitterness.
Why They’re Different
These filters are 20–30% thicker than standard paper filters. That added density slows the flow just enough to encourage proper infusion — not too fast, not too slow.
As water passes through the grounds, undesirable compounds are held back while clarity and sweetness remain.
It’s controlled extraction by design.
Cone Shape for Even Extraction
Each filter is folded into a precise cone shape, guiding water evenly through the bed of coffee toward the apex.
The structure is strong enough to hold saturated grounds without tearing, even when lifting the filter after brewing.
Uniform flow. Clean separation. Dependable strength.

About Chemex
Created in 1941 by chemist Peter Schlumbohm, the Chemex brewer remains largely unchanged — a study in functional design and brewing clarity.
Paired with its proprietary filters, it produces coffee known for its clean profile and absence of sediment.
If you brew with a Chemex, use the filter it was designed around.
